Our Priority Update Report: A Year of Progress and Commitment

We are proud to release our latest Priority Update Report for 2024-25, detailing the significant progress made over the past year in making Coventry a city where every child and young person feels safe, heard, valued, and supported.

Since its launch, Child Friendly Cov has worked tirelessly to address key areas that matter most to young people. This year’s report highlights seven priority updates, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to enhancing the lives of children and young people in our city.

Key highlights from the report include:

  • Promoting a Healthy City: We continue to support young people’s physical and mental well-being through accessible mental health resources, sports initiatives, and the growing Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme.

  • Addressing Climate Change: Coventry’s young people are passionate about the environment. This year, we’ve hosted climate-focused events, engaged young voices in sustainability discussions, and introduced new low-carbon initiatives at city-wide festivals.

  • Providing Recreational Opportunities: We are expanding free and engaging activities for young people, including through the HAF Programme, music opportunities, and city centre developments shaped by youth input.

  • Prioritising Safety: Safety remains a top priority, with initiatives like the No More Knives project in schools and the expansion of Safe Spaces to ensure young people have support when needed.

  • A City for All: Through our Be and Feel Loved pledge, we are making Coventry a welcoming place for all. Projects include creative workshops for children in care, improved ESOL support for young refugees, and increased awareness of family services.

  • Continuing to Empower Youth Voice: We ensure young people influence city decisions through Pupil Parliament, One Big Voice surveys, and leadership engagement initiatives, making their voices central to shaping Coventry’s future.

  • Fostering Pride in Coventry : Encouraging young people to connect with the city’s history and culture remains important, with initiatives like school performances celebrating Coventry’s heritage and platforms highlighting cultural attractions.
